The issue

If your business has a Facebook or an Instagram page, and you have given your business website in those pages. And you realise that upon clicking the website link on FB/ Instagram shows a warning message.

Facebook business page — About section
Error as seen on Instagram, identical error on Facebook page as well.

The story

Let’s say my business has a website hosted in a domain named mybusiness.com and for some reason this domain has been flagged by FB algorithms as violating and as not a clean site, although the current domain history reports, health checks comes up as clean Meta refuses to rectify the issue. Annoying right !?

What’s even worse is Meta help centre specialists can’t exactly say or point out what is the violation, nor they can remove or reset this flag set by their own algorithms.

My business page is fully setup according to FB guidelines and has followed all the verifications.

I’ve tried to solve this issue for months. I read every article out there trying to fix it and interacted with Meta help centre, but it was pretty much pointless. So I had to be creative to work my way around this.

The workaround

Since the issue is with the mybusiness.com domain I purchased a new domain named mybusiness.net and placed a redirect from mybusiness.net to mybusiness.com.

Then I used the mybusiness.net domain address in my FB and Instagram business account pages.

Problem solved ! Simple as that.

Yes, I know that now I have to pay for another domain, but it’s better than letting visitors see a scary warning message that will ultimately affect site conversion rates.

Let me know if you came across this sort of issue and how you managed to fix it.

Cheers!
